About ROCHELLE KOOPMANN
I grew up in New York surrounded by art and music, but it wasn't until I retired to Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia, with my husband that I was able to pursue my dream of creating art. I started painting using primarily pastels, but now enjoy working in oils. I’m particularly interested in figurative gestures, and am always on the lookout for interesting people to paint. I still find the Virginia landscape wonderfully inspiring, and also continue to paint the beaches of Long Island and the coast of Maine. I have received numerous awards including First Place at the League of Roanoke Artists 25th Annual Showcase of the Arts and also at the 3rd Annual Westlake Library Juried Show. My work has also been accepted into national art shows, and one of my pieces was juried into the Appalachian Pastel Society’s Exhibition by the renowned artist Ann Templeton. My work is part of the Carilion Clinic's permanent collection at Smith Mountain Lake and in Roanoke, and can also be seen at many galleries in the area.
